it depends. There are times that tethered oral tissues need to be released.
If for example your infant is having difficulty handling their feeds.
if they are not getting milk from the bottle or breast.
there are many things besides oral ties that can affect your child eating.
when in doubt see a specialist and make your decision in conjunction with them
Not all providers have a good functional understanding of how oral ties affect children. For example, you would not choose to go to your family practice doctor for Knee surgery or to have your teeth cleaned. As well you would be better off to consider consultation with a pediatric dentist, a Speach language therapist, a chiropractor or a lactation consultant specializing in oral ties for evaluation. Often the best approach is a team approach.
Remember having the tie released is not a magic wand. the patient will need to relearn how to use their tongue and mouth correctly post release.
